ICCPR Follow-Up Conference 2009
In July 2008, Ireland was reviewed by the UN Human Rights Committee under the UN International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR). As a result, the Committee produced its observations and recommendations as to how Ireland should best progress the developments already made to further the civil and political rights agenda in the State. FLAC, the ICCL and the IPRT are organising this conference, the aim of which is to ensure that the ICCPR process does not end here; focus must be maintained on the implementation of the Committee’s recommendations and in raising awareness of both the process and the recommendations in Ireland. We are delighted that among those speaking at the event are three members of the Committee who reviewed Ireland:
- Judge Elisabeth Palm, Rapporteur on Ireland and former judge of the Swedish courts and former Vice-President of the European Court of Human Rights;
- Professor Michael O’Flaherty, Co-Director of the Centre for Human Rights at the University of Nottingham and the Irish elected member of the UN Human Rights Committee.
Also speaking at the conference will be the Executive Director of the Irish Human Rights Commission, Mr. Éamonn MacAodha, Senior Solicitor at FLAC, Mr. Michael Farrell and Senior Lecturer and Co-Director Centre for Criminal Justice and Human Rights at University College Cork, Dr. Siobhan Mullally.
The conference will take place on 6 April 2009 at the Radisson SAS Hotel, Golden Lane, Dublin 8. Registration will open at 10am, lunch will be provided.
