Assault on Citizen Hazem Salameh from the Alawite Community in Dimas Housing Area

On November 5, 2025, the Dimas Housing neighborhood in the Damascus countryside witnessed an attack carried out by an armed group targeting shops and homes in areas inhabited by members of the Alawite community. Among the victims was citizen Hazem Salameh, a young man from the Alawite sect who worked in a small shop within the neighborhood. He was brutally assaulted while at work, as the attackers beat him severely—nearly killing him—then vandalized his shop, stole his money and personal phone, all while shouting sectarian slurs.

This incident came in the context of a coordinated assault carried out by gunmen on motorcycles on November 3, 2025, targeting Alawite neighborhoods with random gunfire, grenade attacks, and arson of shops, reflecting an escalation of sectarian-motivated assaults and growing security tensions in the area. Meanwhile, official media reported that the event was merely a “minor altercation” that had been “brought under control.”
