Theft of Kurdish Olive Harvest in Afrin by Turkey-Backed Settlers

In a scene that reflects the ongoing violations against the Kurdish population in Afrin, northern Syria, a Kurdish farmer in the Katakh Plain in Afrin’s countryside was robbed of his olive harvest by Turkey-backed settlers—in broad daylight and in an organized manner.

A circulated video clip shows large groups of settlers, who were brought in by Turkey from various parts of Syria following its occupation of the region in 2018, gathering olives from the Kurdish victim’s orchard, with no intervention whatsoever from the controlling authorities.

This incident comes amid the continued suffering of the Kurdish residents of Afrin, who face severe economic hardship as a result of the repeated confiscation of their lands and crops.
