On October 31, 2025, in the countryside of Homs in central Syria, contact was lost with Mr. Fouad Mahmoud al-Khalil, a member of the Alawite sect, while he was returning from the village of Jubb Abbas in eastern Homs countryside on his motorcycle that afternoon. This incident occurred amid a rise in sectarian violence and kidnapping crimes targeting minorities in Syria following Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham’s takeover of power.
