Citizen Hossam Al-Asmar (35 years old), a member of the Alawite sect — married and father of two — was killed on October 31, 2025, in rural Tartous near the Lebanese-Syrian border.
The killing occurred when an armed group opened fire on him while he was transporting cattle for a livestock trader, resulting in severe injuries that led to his death later in the hospital.
This incident comes amid a broader context of instability and rising sectarian violence and kidnappings targeting minorities in Syria, following the takeover of power by Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham in the country.
