On the evening of November 9, 2025, the Al-Sayyida Zaynab area in Damascus, which has a Shiite majority, witnessed a sectarian demonstration organized by supporters of the interim authority “Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham” against members of the Shiite community.
The demonstration demanded the deportation of Shiites and the closure of their places of worship, describing them with offensive and extremist terms.
Such sectarian demonstrations have recurred since the interim authority took control of Damascus, targeting members of minorities amid the promotion of extremism in mosques, schools, universities, and public places.
