On November 12, 2025, the internal security forces of the interim authority “Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham” carried out an operation in the Sheikh Badr area in the countryside of Tartus, resulting in the arrest of 13 individuals, among them Dr. Aghid Jamal Daniel, who holds a doctorate in general surgery, works at the University Hospital in Aleppo, and teaches surgery at the College of Medicine.
The operation also included the arrest of Sheikh Abdul Ghani Qassab and two of his sons, and Dr. Izz al-Din al-Saraqibi, a professor at the College of Dentistry at the University of Hama.
The Ministry of Interior affiliated with the Hay’ah published a statement describing the detainees as “remnants of the regime,” claimed the seizure of weapons, ammunition, and digital documents, and accused them of participating in hostile acts, assassinating civilians, and recruiting children. The incident occurred within a broader context of mutual accusations and conflicting narratives regarding the roles of the detainees, where descriptions varied between portraying Sheikh Qassab as an “agent for the former regime and Iran” and describing him as an “independent religious man.”
