On December 17, 2025, threatening writings were found in the city of Izra‘ in Daraa Province in southern Syria, on the walls of buildings and commercial shops in various parts of the city, directed against Christian citizens. They included phrases such as: “There is no god but God… We will make your days bleed, O worshipers of the cross… The Islamic Caliphate endures,” and “Terrorism will frighten you,” and “Either Islam… or the jizya… or war.”
The Mar Elias the Alhey Church confirmed in a post on its page that it was following up on the matter with the security authorities, noting the visit of the commander of the Internal Security Forces in the province and his accompanying delegation to inspect the incident and take the necessary measures. The church thanked the delegation for their initiative.
The interim authority, “Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham,” rushed to announce the opening of an investigation and efforts to arrest the perpetrators, presenting itself in the media as an entity confronting extremism and protecting minorities.
Areas under the control of the interim authority are witnessing similar incidents targeting religious and ethnic minorities, who are also subjected to systematic killings, kidnappings, and arrests that are monitored and documented on a daily basis.
