Killing of the minor Ahmad al-Hassan by gunfire from a security patrol in the city of Manbij, northern Syria

On 25 December 2025, the minor Ahmad al-Hassan, “fatherless,” aged 17, was killed by gunfire from a security patrol in the city of Manbij in northern Syria.

According to the information received, a patrol belonging to the General Security, affiliated with the interim authority “Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham,” opened fire on the minor Ahmad al-Hassan while pursuing him. Accounts indicate that the patrol members fired with the intent of intimidation; however, one of the bullets struck Ahmad directly in the head, leading to his immediate death.

The incident sparked widespread public discontent in the city of Manbij, where residents demanded accountability for those responsible for the recurrence of such violations against civilians, especially minors.

The city of Manbij and its countryside are witnessing a state of security breakdown and repeated violations attributed to the security forces against local residents. Other shooting incidents have been recorded, including the killing of the young man Abdullah al-Moussa by security forces on 17 November 2025.

These incidents also come amid unstable security conditions following the entry of Syrian factions loyal to Turkey into the city of Manbij and the surrounding villages and towns during December 2024, where information reported the occurrence of widespread looting and theft affecting thousands of shops, homes, and private facilities, particularly those belonging to residents from the Kurdish component.
