On June 18, 2025, in the village of Haj Hassno (Bahaj Hasanli), located in the Jindires subdistrict of Afrin, northern Syria, Kurdish teenager Mustafa Jamil Sheikho (16 years old) was killed by Turkey-backed settlers while they attempted to steal solar panels he was guarding.
In the same incident, the victim’s cousin, Eyad Mohammed Sheikho (also known as Eyad Sheikh Mohammed), was shot and wounded by the settlers. Later, the “General Security” forces affiliated with the Interim Authority (Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham) in Afrin arrested Eyad Mohammed Sheikho, transferring him between several detention centers — including the Jindires subdistrict office and Afrin city center — before detaining him last week in the Maratah Prison.
He was charged with “attempted murder and possession of a weapon,” although the incident occurred in the context of self-defense. Meanwhile, none of the settlers involved in the attack were arrested, sparking widespread anger among local residents, who are demanding his release and accountability for the real perpetrators.
