On the morning of October 28, 2025, in the city of Homs, central Syria, engineer Fouad Mohammad Darbouli was assassinated after being shot in the head by an armed group while on his way to work. The victim, an Alawite engineer holding a Ph.D. in energy, worked at the Jandar power plant.
This crime comes amid a broader context of escalating killings, sectarian violence, and kidnappings targeting minorities in Syria, following the takeover of power by Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham in the country.
