Death of a Civilian from the Alawite Sect During a Security Raid in Mazzeh 86 Neighborhood, Damascus — The Victim Threw Himself from His Balcony

The Victim:

Name: Bilal Ali

Sect: Alawite

Origin: From the city of Salhab in Hama countryside

Description: Civilian in his forties

Circumstances of the Incident:

A security patrol affiliated with the Interim Authority in Syria (Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham), consisting of about five vehicles, carried out a raid campaign in the neighborhood targeting several houses under the pretext of searching for wanted individuals.

The patrol surrounded the home of the victim, Bilal Ali.

During the raid, and fearing arrest, the victim threw himself from the balcony of his fourth-floor apartment, resulting in his immediate death due to severe injuries.

Security forces prevented residents from approaching or attempting to provide aid to the young man. They also banned photography and threatened those present not to leave their homes.

The victim’s body was transferred to Al-Mujtahid Hospital in Damascus.

General Context:

The victim’s brother, Basil Ali, was also arrested. He had recently been released after approximately four months of detention.

Another young man, around 23 years old, who happened to be passing by during the raid, was also arrested.
