On the morning of November 6, 2025, contact was lost with Aya Walid Issa (17 years old), a student from the Alawite community, while she was on her way to school in the village of Miy’ar Shaker, located in the Akkar Plain area of rural Tartus Governorate, western Syria.
Aya’s mother appeared in a video appealing for information and calling on authorities to reveal her daughter’s fate.
This incident comes amid a broader context of recurring kidnappings and abuses targeting minority groups in various parts of Syria, following the takeover of power by Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham in the country.
