The interim authorities released the Kurdish lawyer Alaa al-Din Khaled Kalo after one day had passed since his arrest, which took place in the town of Tal Hasil, located in the northern Aleppo countryside, northern Syria.
According to statements by Kurdish activists, security forces affiliated with the interim authority raided the home of lawyer Alaa al-Din Khaled Kalo in the town of Tal Hasil on the afternoon of Friday, 2 January 2026, where he was arrested and taken to an unknown location without presenting a legal warrant or clarifying the reasons for the detention. During his period of detention, no official information was available regarding his whereabouts or legal status, which raised growing concerns, especially in light of his sensitive health condition and his need for continuous medical follow-up.
Alaa al-Din Khaled Kalo is a lawyer belonging to the Kurdish community and resides in the town of Tal Hasil in the Aleppo countryside. He is known for his professional activity in the legal field and suffers from health conditions that require regular medical care.
Despite the release of lawyer Alaa al-Din Khaled Kalo after one day of his arrest, the incident falls within a broader pattern of violations that raise serious concerns regarding the safety of the Kurdish population in the area, respect for their fundamental rights, and ensuring the commitment of security bodies to legal standards and human rights.
In this context, previous incidents have been recorded, including a raid carried out by elements of the “General Security” in the town of Tal Aran on the evening of Saturday, 8 November 2025, which resulted in the arrest of eleven Kurdish citizens. Another incident was documented on Saturday, 11 October 2025, in the same town, when the intervention of security forces in an attempt to arbitrarily arrest a Kurdish young man led to the death of his father, Dibo Ahmad Khamis, after he suffered a fatal heart attack while trying to prevent the arrest of his son.
