Testimony of a Survivor from the Targeting of a Civilian Passenger Bus on the Damascus–Suwayda Road

One of the passengers who survived the targeting of a civilian passenger bus on the Damascus–-Suwayda road recounted that the incident occurred after gunfire was suddenly directed at the passengers without any prior warning. He noted that the driver continued driving toward Suwayda despite the shooting, which resulted in injuries among the passengers.

On October 28, 2025, an armed attack targeted a civilian passenger bus on the Damascus–Suwayda road, specifically near the Marjana Station and gas station in rural Damascus. The area is under the control of the “General Security” apparatus affiliated with the “Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham” (HTS) interim authority. The incident occurred as the bus was returning from Damascus to Suwayda.

The attack, carried out through direct gunfire, resulted in the deaths of Aya Salam and Kamal Abdul Baqi, and caused injuries to at least eleven civilians, some of whom were reported to be in serious condition, according to medical and local sources.

The bus was targeted in an area densely patrolled by “General Security” checkpoints, which led to heightened tension in the region.

The victims belonged to the Druze community, and the attack comes amid a broader climate of escalating sectarian violence, killings, and kidnappings targeting minorities in Syria. The Damascus–Suwayda road has become particularly unsafe due to repeated armed clashes following the Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham’s assumption of control over the area.
