The young man Mohammad Hallani, a civilian from the Shiite community, was killed on 14 December 2025 after being subjected to direct gunfire by an armed group, in front of his commercial shop in the al-Tadamon neighborhood of the Syrian capital, Damascus.
According to available information, unknown gunmen opened fire on Mohammad Hallani in cold blood while he was standing in front of his shop, leading to his immediate death. The identity of the party responsible for the crime has not yet been determined, but it comes within the context of sectarian violence in the country.
The violations were not limited to the killing itself. Activists reported that the body was transferred to al-Mujtahid Hospital in Damascus, where the same armed entities detained the victim’s body, an act that constitutes an additional violation of human rights, exacerbates the suffering of the victim’s family, and contravenes humanitarian principles and legal norms related to the dignity of the dead and the rights of their families.
This incident occurs within a deteriorating security context affecting various areas of the capital, Damascus, where attacks against civilians are repeatedly recorded, particularly in front of their workplaces, amid a clear absence of accountability and conflicting information regarding the responsible parties. This reinforces a climate of impunity and raises serious concerns about the safety of civilians and their right to life and security.
