The Killing of the Family of Kurdish Lawyer Khalil Abdo in Al-Sabeel Neighborhood, Aleppo: Four Family Members, Including Two Children, Killed Inside Their Home

The killing of the family of Kurdish lawyer Khalil Abdo is considered one of the shocking criminal incidents that the city of Aleppo has recently witnessed. An entire family of four members, including two children, was killed inside their home in the Al-Sabeel neighborhood. This crime has generated widespread shock and growing concerns regarding the safety of civilians and the rising level of crime in several Syrian regions.

The family of the Kurdish lawyer Khalil Abdo, known as “Khaldoun Murad,” was killed inside their residence located on the fourth floor of a residential building in the Al-Sabeel neighborhood in the city of Aleppo, northern Syria.

The list of victims included four members of the family:

Lawyer Khalil Abdo (known as Khaldoun Murad), originally from the village of Matina in the Afrin countryside.

Shilan Tobal, the wife of lawyer Khalil Abdo, originally from the village of Hajj in the Afrin countryside.

The child Ahmed Khalil Abdo, a fifth-grade primary school student.

The child Eileen Khalil Abdo, a second-grade primary school student.

The crime was discovered on Sunday, 8 March 2026, after contact with the family members had been lost for a period of time, prompting their relatives to go to their home to check on them. After knocking on the door and receiving no response, the relatives forced the door open and found the four family members dead inside the house.

In an official statement, the Commander of the Internal Security Forces in Aleppo Governorate, Colonel Mohammad Abdul Ghani, announced on Monday, 9 March 2026, the arrest of the person suspected of committing the murder of the family in the Al-Sabeel neighborhood. He stated that the suspect had been referred to the judiciary in order to take the necessary legal measures against him.

Although the initial indications suggest that the crime bears a criminal nature, its occurrence comes at a time when several Syrian regions are witnessing a noticeable rise in crime rates and acts of violence, raising growing concerns among residents about the security situation and the protection of civilians.

The disclosure of this crime came only hours after another killing incident that occurred on the morning of Sunday, 8 March 2026, in the city of Jindires in the Afrin region of northern Syria, where three civilians were killed following an armed attack targeting two workers and the owner of a goldsmithing and currency-exchange shop in the city center. This incident likewise sparked new concerns about the deterioration of the security situation and the safety of civilians in the region.

The killing of the family of lawyer Khalil Abdo highlights the risks faced by civilians in several Syrian regions and underscores the urgent need for transparent investigations and for ensuring accountability for those responsible for such crimes, in addition to adopting effective measures to strengthen civilian protection and prevent the recurrence of similar incidents.
