Young Man Amer Al-Yousef Killed by Gunmen in Alawite-Majority Akrama Neighborhood in Homs

The young man Amer Al-Yousef, a member of the Alawite community, was killed after being directly targeted by gunfire from unidentified armed men in the Alawite-majority Akrama neighborhood of the city of Homs in western Syria, on 6 February 2026. The incident falls within a growing pattern of serious human rights violations against civilians on sectarian grounds in Syria.

According to corroborated information, armed men riding a motorcycle opened fire on Amer Al-Yousef while he was near Al-Malja’ Garden in the Akrama neighborhood, killing him instantly. The assailants fled the scene immediately after carrying out the attack.

This crime comes amid a broader context of recent, separate incidents across the country targeting civilians from religious and sectarian minorities.

Field reports indicate an escalation in killings, targeted attacks, and arrests against civilians belonging to the Alawite, Shiite, and Druze sects, as well as members of the Kurdish ethnic group, amid deteriorating security conditions and the continued absence of accountability. This escalation reflects a troubling pattern of violations that may amount to serious breaches of international human rights law.

The facts confirm that the killing of Amer Al-Yousef is not an isolated incident, but rather part of a worsening security and human rights situation that requires urgent intervention to halt violations and ensure respect for human rights in Syria.
