Sectarian Protest in the Qneinis Neighborhood of Latakia Western Syria

In the Qneinis neighborhood of the coastal city of Latakia, western Syria, on the evening of October 28, 2025, supporters of the interim authority (Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham) gathered in front of the Qneinis police station to protest after it was targeted with a sound bomb. The demonstrators chanted sectarian slogans and hurled insults against members of the Alawite community.

This incident comes within the context of a systematic incitement campaign against the Alawite community taking place in Syria’s coastal regions, accompanied by a wave of targeted killings and kidnappings documented in recent days by “Rights Monitor”.

The gathering followed the explosion of an improvised device at the entrance of the police station, which caused no injuries. However, local sources reported that members of the station themselves had thrown the grenades during a dispute.
