Killing of two civilians and injury of a child as a result of artillery and missile shelling on the city of Deir Hafir in the Aleppo countryside

Two civilians were killed—namely the child Fatima al-Ahmad and the elderly man Abd al-Latif al-Sheikh Hussein—in addition to the injury of the child Hamida Hilal, as a result of artillery and missile shelling carried out by the forces of the interim authority on the city of Deir Hafir in the northern Aleppo countryside, northern Syria, in the late hours of the evening of 9 January 2026.

According to the available information, the city of Deir Hafir was targeted with artillery shells and rocket launchers, leading to casualties in the Deir Hafir area, which is under the control of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

This shelling comes just one day after a similar incident witnessed by the city, in which six civilians were killed on 8 January 2026 as a result of shelling carried out by the forces of the interim authority on the city of Deir Hafir. The names of the victims were documented as follows: Salah Eid al-Ayoub, Osama Eid al-Ayoub, Abdallah Abd al-Qader, Malak Rakan al-Jarab, Mohammad Jarab al-Treibi, Jomaa Ahmad al-Jomaa.

These incidents come within the context of a military escalation witnessed in several areas of Aleppo Governorate, particularly the predominantly Kurdish neighborhoods in the city of Aleppo, such as the Sheikh Maqsoud and al-Ashrafieh neighborhoods, since Tuesday, 6 January 2026.

This pattern of repeated shelling of populated areas reflects the continued exposure of civilians, including children, to serious risks threatening their lives and safety, amid escalating military operations and the use of weapons with wide impact in residential areas.
