Storming of Ba‘bda Village in the Countryside of Jableh and Random Gunfire Amid Civilian Neighborhoods

A convoy of General Security forces affiliated with the temporary authority “Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham” stormed, on the morning of 24 December 2025, the villages of Ba‘bda and Duwayr Ba‘bda in the countryside of the city of Jableh in Latakia Governorate, western Syria. These villages are inhabited by citizens from the Alawite community, under the pretext of pursuing and arresting wanted individuals.

According to the information received, the raid was accompanied by heavy use of weapons, as the forces fired randomly and launched “RPG” shells toward the surrounding wooded areas, in addition to throwing grenades between houses, despite the presence of civilians in the area.

These operations coincided with the time when school students were leaving, which led to a state of fear and panic among residents, especially children.

Several locations within Ba‘bda village also witnessed heavy gunfire into the air without the presence of a clear military target, in what appeared to be aimed at intimidating the population.

According to preliminary information, a General Security patrol entered Ba‘bda village. Upon its arrival, patrol members fired into the air in an attempt to terrorize residents. Later, a clash occurred between the patrol members and the wanted individuals inside one of the farms in the village.

Following the clash, the wanted individuals managed to flee the village, while the security forces searched the farm where the confrontation took place, before additional reinforcements arrived and set up checkpoints at all entrances to Ba‘bda village.

The practices accompanying the raid operations indicate a tendency by the security forces to exert pressure on the Alawite residents in the area and spread fear among them, within a context marked by the continued occurrence of killings, kidnappings, and physical assaults against civilians—particularly members of the Alawite community—alongside the ongoing state of impunity in areas under the control of the temporary authorities.
