The killing of Kamal Abdel Latif Subeh from the Alawite sect in the countryside of Tartus

Kamal Abdel Latif Subeh, a 66-year-old Alawite street vendor, was killed. While returning to his home in the village of Izrael on the evening of September 29, he encountered a temporary checkpoint set up by the General Security forces of the interim authority (Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham) on the road connecting Sheikh Badr and Drikish. When the citizen stopped at the checkpoint, the security personnel opened fire on him for refusing to imitate the sound of a dog, leading to his immediate death.

After Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham assumed authority in Syria, its members began committing humiliating practices against the Alawite sect and other minorities. They forced hundreds of victims, before killing and torturing them during the March 2025 Coastal Massacres, to imitate the sound of dogs in a act demeaning to human dignity.
