Documentation of the Killing of Jwan Mohammed in al-Ashrafiyeh Neighborhood, Aleppo, Following the Entry of Forces Affiliated with the Ministry of Defense of the Interim Authority

This report documents the killing of the Kurdish youth Jwan Mohammed, aged 18, on 8 January 2029, in the al-Ashrafiyeh neighborhood of Aleppo city, northern Syria, following the entry of factions affiliated with the Ministry of Defense of the interim authority into the neighborhood.

According to the information received, members of those forces carried out a summary (extrajudicial) execution of Jwan Mohammed immediately after entering the neighborhood. His body was later found, with no information available indicating that any legal or judicial procedures preceded the killing.

The killing of Jwan Mohammed occurred in the context of the military assault carried out by the forces of the interim authority, represented by “Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham,” against the predominantly Kurdish neighborhoods of Sheikh Maqsoud and al-Ashrafiyeh in Aleppo city, during the period from 6 to 10 January 2026.

The killing of Jwan Mohammed constitutes part of a broader pattern of grave violations committed against civilians in the predominantly Kurdish neighborhoods of Aleppo during the aforementioned military operation, amid the absence of any information regarding the opening of an independent investigation or the accountability of those responsible for this incident.
