An Alawite Woman Killed and Her Child Critically Injured in an Armed Attack in the Wadi al-Dahab Neighborhood of Homs, One Week After Another Family Was Targeted
Rights Monitor Syria documented the killing of Ms. Yumna al-Hallaq (41 years old) and the severe injury of her child, Zain Ibrahim (13 years old), after they were subjected to gunfire by armed individuals riding a motorcycle and using silenced handguns in Al-Taweel Street in the Wadi al-Dahab neighborhood of Homs City, at approximately 01:00 AM on Monday, July 27, 2026.
According to information documented by the platform, the gunmen directly targeted the mother and her child while they were in Al-Taweel Street, resulting in the death of Ms. Yumna al-Hallaq at the scene of the attack, while the child Zain Ibrahim sustained critical injuries and was transferred to Al-Za’eem Hospital for medical treatment.
Available information indicates that both victims belong to the Alawite community. This incident comes just one week after a similar attack targeted another Alawite family in Homs City, raising growing fears of recurring attacks against civilians based on their sectarian affiliation, or under circumstances that warrant an independent and transparent investigation.
On July 19, 2026, Rights Monitor Syria documented the killing of three civilians from a single family belonging to the Alawite community, after they were subjected to gunfire executed by gunmen riding a motorcycle in Al-Kaneesa Street in the Al-Sabeel neighborhood of Homs City. At the time, the attack resulted in the immediate deaths of Amna Mohammad Qa’eer (39 years old), her son Issa Khansa (9 years old), and her daughter Lujain Khansa (14 years old) at the site of the attack.
These incidents occur amid ongoing reports documenting killings targeting civilians across several Syrian regions, including members belonging to religious and sectarian minorities. This raises serious concerns regarding the escalating risks threatening civilian lives and mandates that competent authorities take effective measures to ensure their protection and prevent the recurrence of such crimes.
Rights Monitor Syria affirms that targeting civilians constitutes a grave violation of international human rights law and the provisions of international humanitarian law. The organization calls for opening an independent, impartial, and effective investigation to uncover all circumstances of the crime, identify those responsible, and bring them to justice, thereby ensuring the fight against impunity, providing redress for the victims and their families, and guaranteeing the non-recurrence of such violations.
