Assassination of Citizen Mahmoud Issa from the Alawite Sect in Aleppo

The young man Mahmoud Issa was killed on the evening of October 29, 2025, by gunmen riding a motorcycle in the Al-Hamdaniya neighborhood of Aleppo, northern Syria.

The victim, an economics student and the only son of his parents, was originally from the village of Baabda in the Jableh countryside.

He belonged to the Alawite sect and was the son of Major General Mohammed Issa, who served as the commander of the Assad Military Academy from 2011 to 2016.

This incident comes amid a rise in sectarian violence and kidnapping crimes targeting minorities in Syria following Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham’s takeover of power.
