Armed men riding a motorcycle assassinated Sheikh Khaled Khadoj, a former member of the Syrian People’s Council during the previous regime period, on the evening of Tuesday, December 2, 2025, in front of his home on Khat al-Sharika in the city of Baniyas in Tartous Governorate, western Syria.
The victim was from the Sunni community in Baniyas, and he had previously held the position of Director of Awqaf of Baniyas.
Following the assassination, a Facebook page named “عين غويران الحرة,” which promotes factions loyal to Turkey and to the interim authority “Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham,” published a post that included direct incitement to killing against those it described as “Hasakah shabiha,” and attached the post with a photo of the victim.
The text of the post contained direct threats and incitement, including calls to leave the area and explicit death threats, within the context of a sharply incendiary discourse.
