Documentation of the Killing of Young Dentist “Ali Muhammad Ayoub” in the Latakia Countryside

On March 19, 2026, the body of the young dentist Ali Muhammad Ayoub (25 years old), a member of the Alawite sect, was discovered inside his private clinic in the village of Qasmin, located in the Latakia countryside of western Syria. To date, no clear information is available regarding the circumstances of the crime or the entity responsible for it.

This incident occurs within a series of crimes and violations witnessed across various regions of Syria during March 2026, targeting civilians from diverse religious backgrounds, including:

On March 18, 2026: The body of Mr. Ayman Ali al-Jardi, an Alawite civilian working as a taxi driver, was found after he had been kidnapped in the Wadi al-Dhahab neighborhood of Homs city.

On March 16, 2026: Ibrahim Hassan al-Khatib, a young man belonging to the Shiite sect, was killed by gunfire on the Aleppo–Azaz road in northern Syria.

On the same day: The body of Ali Ramez al-Muhammad, a young man from the Alawite sect, was found murdered inside his home in Homs city; no further details regarding the incident have been disclosed.

On March 13, 2026: Hussein Rasim al-Rajou, a member of the Alawite sect, was killed in the al-Muhajirin neighborhood (al-Basel Suburb) in Homs city, following an assault with a sharp object to the neck area.

On March 14, 2026: The body of Ismail Mustafa Safar, of the Ismaili sect, was discovered in the Homs countryside after he was lured out of the city of Salamiyah in the Hama countryside.

Collectively, these facts indicate an alarming escalation in the frequency of violations targeting civilians based on religious or sectarian affiliation, occurring within an environment characterized by weak accountability and a lack of adequate protection for civilians. These incidents reflect a recurring pattern of crimes committed under mysterious circumstances, lacking transparent investigation results or the holding of perpetrators to account.

The persistence of these violations without accountability threatens civil peace and exacerbates the fragility of the humanitarian situation in Syria. This necessitates:

The initiation of independent and transparent investigations into all aforementioned incidents.

Ensuring the protection of civilians without discrimination based on religion or sect.

Holding those responsible for these crimes accountable in accordance with International Human Rights Law.

Activating the role of local and international bodies in the continuous monitoring and documentation of these violations.
