Killing of a Citizen in Northern Aleppo Countryside at the Hands of a Group of Former Armed Men

The citizen Hussein Diab, 55, was killed and his son Abdullah was seriously injured after they were attacked with knives in the village of Kfîn in the northern countryside of Aleppo, on Sunday, December 7, 2025.

The victim, Hussein Diab, was a resident of the area and had lived for a period in the Ashrafiyeh neighborhood in the city of Aleppo, which is administered by the General Council of the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiyeh neighborhoods, before recently returning to his village in order to invest in and cultivate his land.

According to the information received, the assault was carried out by a group of more than 20 armed men who had previously been members of armed factions in the Afrin countryside and who had, in earlier periods, committed violations against the original Kurdish inhabitants before leaving Afrin and returning to their village.

The dispute occurred when the armed group opposed the victim’s return to his land and the beginning of work on it, accusing him of “shabbiha” activity. The verbal altercations escalated into a direct knife attack, which led to the immediate death of Hussein Diab and the injury of his son Abdullah with several stab wounds. The son was transported to Azaz National Hospital, where he remains in intensive care due to the severity of his injuries.

This incident comes in the context of growing violations in the northern countryside of Aleppo, particularly in areas controlled by gunmen who were formerly part of the Turkish-backed Syrian National Army factions and who have been involved in assaults against the original Kurdish inhabitants, amid the absence of effective accountability mechanisms or protection for civilians returning to their villages and properties.
