On 9 December 2025, healthcare worker Naeem Ibrahim Hamdan was informed of his dismissal from his position in the ambulance and emergency system affiliated with the Health Directorate in Latakia, western Syria, an entity under the control of the interim authority “Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham.”
Naeem Ibrahim Hamdan, a nurse who worked for years within the health sector in Latakia, is active in media on social-media platforms and participates in the “Latakia: Eye on the Truth” outlet.
According to what Hamdan posted on his Facebook page, the dismissal decision was based on his media activity and his public sympathy with the victims and their families, in addition to his support for the oppressed on local platforms. He confirmed that he had adhered to his work throughout his years of service without notable professional violations, and indicated that the measure was taken without convincing reasons, considering it to be in conflict with the freedom of opinion and expression guaranteed by law.
This decision comes within a broader context characterized by restrictions on freedom of expression and the prosecution of employees in civil institutions over their opinions or media activity, especially in areas under the control of Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham.
Hamdan announced his intention to pursue the case legally and take the necessary steps to appeal the decision.
