Activists documented the arrest of the young man Iskandar Salloum on December 11, 2025, at two o’clock in the afternoon, in the village of Al-Mintar in rural Tartus in western Syria, after a force belonging to the General Security affiliated with the interim authority “Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham” entered the village and detained him without bringing any charges or presenting any legal justification.
The young man, Iskandar Salloum, is a civilian who had lived for a period in Cyprus before recently returning to Syria. No political affiliations or security-related activities were known about him, according to local accounts.
According to testimonies obtained by activists, Salloum was detained abruptly and without any explanation, and his family or local residents were not allowed to know the entity to which he was taken or the nature of the procedures he underwent following his arrest.
This incident comes within an escalating pattern of arbitrary arrests and detentions occurring in various areas of the Syrian coast in recent times, with many families reporting the continued disappearance of their relatives and receiving no official information regarding the places of detention or the reasons for the arrests.
