Death of Kurdish Citizen Ibrahim Sabri by Turkish Border Guard Fire Near Kobani While Working His Land

Kurdish citizen Ibrahim Sabri, aged 39, passed away on May 11, 2026, succumbing to injuries sustained from gunfire opened by members of the Turkish Border Guard (Turkish Gendarmerie). The incident occurred while he was irrigating his farmland near the Syrian-Turkish border in the village of Kikan, located east of the city of Kobani in northern Syria.

According to local sources, Ibrahim Sabri was subjected to direct fire while present in agricultural fields adjacent to the border strip, where he was conducting irrigation work on his property. He sustained a gunshot wound and was subsequently transported to a hospital in Kobani for medical treatment.

Sources reported that Sabri was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) due to the critical nature of his injury; however, he later passed away as a result of the wounds sustained.

This incident falls within a pattern of recurring shooting incidents by the Turkish Border Guard targeting civilians in the border regions of northern Syria, including the targeting of farmers, shepherds, and local residents during their movement or labor near the border.
