Documentation of the Abduction of Dr. Ali Ahmad, a Member of the Alawite Community, in the City of Homs

This report documents an incident of loss of contact and a suspected abduction involving Dr. Ali Ahmad, a member of the Alawite community, in the city of Homs—Wadi al-Dhahab neighborhood—on the evening of 31 January 2026. The incident raises serious concerns regarding grave violations of fundamental rights guaranteed under international human rights law and international humanitarian law.

According to the information documented, contact with Dr. Ali Ahmad was lost after he left his medical clinic located near the Police Housing Roundabout in the Wadi al-Dhahab neighborhood on the evening of 31 January 2026.

Local sources reported that the clinic was found open, with the doctor not present inside, and without any indications of theft or tampering with its contents. His vehicle and personal belongings were not reported missing.

The same sources added that an unidentified party took him away, noting that residents are unable to determine whether the party involved consisted of security personnel or an abduction group.

This incident occurs amid the continued recording of cases of kidnapping and enforced disappearance in several Syrian regions, in a context marked by the absence of effective legal accountability. This situation exacerbates a climate of fear and threatens social cohesion, particularly when violations target civilians on the basis of sectarian or identity-related grounds.
