Killing of the young man Yamen Khadr Hammoud from the Alawite sect while working as a delivery driver in the city of Homs

The young man Yamen Khadr Hammoud, 20 years old and a member of the Alawite sect, was killed in the city of Homs in central Syria on December 3, 2024, after contact with him was lost while he was working as a delivery driver for a restaurant in the Zahra neighborhood.

The victim, born in 2005, worked in delivery services to support his family. On the afternoon of the incident, he went out to deliver an order destined for the Hamidiyah neighborhood, but he never reached the specified location. Communication with him was suddenly cut off, and his body was found hours later at the National Hospital in Homs.

The crime comes within the context of escalating sectarian tensions in the city of Homs and its surroundings, where killings and kidnappings targeting members of the Alawite sect are recurring, alongside other similar incidents in several Syrian regions.

The killing of Yamen Khadr Hammoud represents another example of the ongoing sectarian-motivated violence in Homs, in the absence of clear mechanisms for protection and accountability, which exacerbates fears among local communities and increases the fragility of the city’s security situation.
