On the morning of November 20, 2025, in the Akrama neighborhood of the city of Homs in central Syria, the car of the bread distributor “Maher Badr Akkari” and his wife “Hala Dioub” was subjected to direct gunfire by armed men riding in a silver Jeep bearing an Idlib license plate, in front of their home. The attack led to the immediate death of “Hala Dioub” — a woman belonging to the Alawite sect — and seriously injured her husband Maher, who was taken to the hospital. This incident came within a broader context of escalating sectarian violence and kidnapping crimes targeting minorities in Syria, giving his disappearance a significance related to the prevailing security conditions.
